How to make a list of abbreviations in Word (or any word processor)?

Why are there so many acronyms?

This tool is intentionally designed to broadly select all potential acronyms so you don't miss any. Since acronyms come in many shapes and formats it is likely going to pick up a few things that are not actually acronyms.
You can simply click on the cross to delete those.

Acronyms or abbreviations? I'm confused.

Short answer: it doesn't matter. Acronyms are a type of abbreviation and—unless you want to inform readers that Dr means Doctor or that I'm means I am—it's the only type we're interested in here.

Limitations

This tool is not smart enough to pick up acronyms that are written in lowercase, e.g. laser, or with a single uppercase letter, e.g. Unicef.

But if you wrote it this way, maybe it is a fairly widely-known acronym that does not need to be defined to the reader?
